Kinsmen Beach Re-Opened to Swimmers

(Wednesday, August 22/2007)-- The HRM-supervised portion of Kinsmen Beach, on First Lake, Sackville, has been re-opened to swimmers, effective immediately.

However, Cunard Beach, on Williams Lake in Halifax; Oakfield Beach, on Grand Lake, in the Fall River area; and Springfield Beach, Sackville, remain closed to the public due to water quality problems.

Regular testing performed by the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment at HRM’s supervised beaches showed high bacteria levels in the water at these two lakes. “No Swimming” signs have been posted and Beach Program staff will remain on duty during regular hours to advise the public of the closure.

HRM thanks the public for its cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience.

For further information on HRM Beach conditions, the public can call 490-5458.
