The Importance of Trees in HRM

(Tuesday, August 28, 2007) - Citizens are invited to a presentation about Urban trees entitled “The Importance of Trees to Cities” by Dr. David Nowak from the Northeastern Research Station in Syracuse New York. The presentation will be held on Wednesday, September 19 from 2:00 until 4:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Boat Club in Halifax.

The presentation will provide information about the value of trees to a city, which is an important part of Regional Council's Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP). The UFMP will provide a long term plan for the growth and maintenance of trees throughout HRM.

Dr. Nowak is a respected scientist who has researched the benefits of urban forests in relation to human and environmental health. He will speak specifically to the benefits and importance of urban forests to cities.
