Fougere Appointed to High-Profile National Committees
(Friday, September 7/07)-- Councillor Sheila Fougere has been named to two high-profile committees of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
Councillor Fougere has been named Vice-Chair of the FCM’s Standing Committee on Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development and a member of the FCMs Green Municipal Fund Council.
Councillor Fougere, who is attending a meeting of the Standing Committee in St. Andrew’s, New Brunswick, said today “ I am honoured to not only be representing HRM on these committees, but also all municipalities in Nova Scotia. The FCM has been very active in addressing the environmental concerns of local governments, not only by providing information and knowledge, but also by helping to finance environmentally sustainable projects, such as the Harbour Solutions Project, through the Green Municipal Fund.’
FCM’s Green Municipal Fund (GMF) offers a range of resources and services to specifically address the sustainable community development needs of municipal governments. It provides low interest loans and grants, builds capacity and shares knowledge to help support municipalities and their partners. The fund is managed by the FCM Centre for Sustainable Community Development.
Councillor Fougere also said ““HRM’s active participation as members of FCM has paid off by achieving the GST Rebate, infrastructure program funding and municipalities receiving a portion of the federal Gas Tax. All of these achievements came about through effective lobbying by the FCM on behalf of all municipalities in Canada.”
