Sewer/Water Project Cause of Traffic Delays

(Tuesday, September 11/07)-- Motorists are experiencing traffic delays along Sackville Drive to the Lively Subdivision as the result new sewer and water pipe installation.

HRM and the Halifax Regional Water Commission (HRWC) are undertaking the project to provide existing Lively Subdivision residents with direct access to the municipal water and sewer systems. The work is proposed to be completed by late 2007 or Spring 2008.

The scope of the project includes the extension of a 400mm diameter water main from the Lucasville Road / Sackville Drive intersection area, along Sackville Drive to the Lively Subdivision. The water system work also includes a new pumping station within Lively Subdivision, a connection to the existing Lively water distribution system, and the decommissioning of the existing Lively water treatment facility.

The sewer portion of the project includes the extension of a sanitary sewer from the Millwood area, along Sackville Drive to Lively Subdivision. This work includes connection to the existing Lively sanitary sewer collection system and decommissioning of the existing wastewater treatment facility.

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when traveling in the construction zone and, if possible, to seek an alternate travel route until the project is completed.

HRM apologizes for any inconvenience.
