Halifax Regional Firefighters Rank #1 in Canada at National Firefighter Combat Challenge in Halifax

(Thursday, September 13, 2007) - During the weekend of September 1, 2007, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency hosted The Canadian Nationals - Firefighter Combat Challenge Competition which was held on the Halifax Waterfront. Team Halifax won seven gold medals, the first time a team has done this at Nationals. All participating teams and individuals put on quite the demonstration on how to run the course.

Halifax is ranked #1 in Canada and are heading to compete at the Worlds in Las Vegas, Nevada in November, 2007 to represent HRM, our fire department and our country!!

Halifax Regional Firefighters Mike Sears and Joe Triff set a new world record for their NxG2 race. Firefighter Joe Triff is now ranked #1 in Canada for his individual time and was also awarded 1st place for volunteer firefighter. Firefighter Cyril Fraser is ranked #2 in the over 50 division for Canada. This is a proud moment for our city and our fire department!!

The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a competition based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. The Challenge is very demanding and many participants perform at the level of elite athletes. Firefighters call it the toughest two minutes in sports.
