Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Gets Set for Fire Prevention Week!

(Tuesday, October 2, 2007) – Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency would like to remind the public about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week, October 7-13. This year's theme, “Practise Your Fire Escape Plan” highlights the importance of families having a fire escape plan. Each member of the household needs to know the fire escape plan, and all should practice it at least twice a year.

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is offering the following Fire Prevention Week activities for residents starting with a “ Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off on Saturday, October 6 with the Halifax Mooseheads at the Metro Centre.

There will also be a Fire Prevention Week Contest in all HRM Elementary Schools. In addition, Fire Education display booths will be set up as follows:

Tuesday, October 9 - (11:00 - 2:00) Halifax Shopping Centre Food Court

Wednesday, October 10 - (11:00 - 2:00) - MicMac Mall Food Court

Saturday & Sunday, October 13& 14 - Maritime Fall Fair (interactive fire escape drills)

In addition to practising your escape plan, HRM residents should install smoke alarms on every level of the home and maintained with monthly testing and bi-annual battery replacement. All smoke alarms should be replaced with a new unit after 6-10 years.
