Citizenship Week Gets Under Way:
Thirty New Canadians to be Sworn in at City Hall
(Friday, October 12/07) – In honour of Canadian Citizenship Week (October 15-21), Mayor Peter Kelly will welcome 30 new Canadians to HRM at a citizenship swearing-in ceremony at City Hall on Monday, October 15, 2007.
“We strive every day to make Halifax Regional Municipality a welcoming community and we are truly honoured that these citizens have chosen HRM as their home,” says Mayor Kelly. “I am always thankful to have the opportunity to welcome our newest citizens at these very special ceremonies. Citizenship Week also serves as a reminder to all citizens of how lucky we are to live in one of the greatest countries in the world.”
The new Canadians are from fifteen countries throughout the world: China, Columbia, Cuba, England, Germany, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Pakistan, Peru, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, United Arab Emirates and United States of America. Citizenship Judge Linda Carvery will preside over the ceremony.
