Mayor’s Roundtable on Violence:
Community Roundtables

(Thursday, October 25/07) As part of the Mayor’s Roundtable on Violence, HRM residents are invited to join Mayor Peter Kelly and some members of Council this evening at one of the six Community Roundtables on Violence being held throughout HRM over the next two weeks.

The facilitated session will offer residents the chance to provide community-specific feedback on challenges and solutions to violent crime in HRM.

“Community response to the Roundtable initiative has been encouraging, and I want to ensure that all residents have an opportunity to participate in this process,” says Mayor Kelly. “The Community Roundtables on Violence will allow residents to really get in there, roll up their sleeves and be part of the solution. I encourage those interested to attend a Community Roundtable, because we can make a difference by working together.”

Feedback from the Community Roundtables, as well as comprehensive research, focus group and survey findings, will be presented at the final Mayor’s Roundtable on Violence discussions in November. A detailed report to be delivered this winter that will outline a workable long-term strategy with key recommendations for community stakeholders.

One Community Roundtable has already taken place in Sackville, and others are scheduled in Armdale (October 29), Hatchet Lake (November 1), Porters Lake (November 5) and Dartmouth (November 6).
