McCluskey Says All Welcome at Dartmouth Tree Lighting

(Thursday, November 22/07) - District 5 Councillor Gloria McCluskey today issued an invitation to residents from all communities throughout HRM to attend the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festival in Dartmouth on December 1st.

Councillor McCluskey said "We are very proud of this festival and we want residents from other communities to come out and enjoy the fun with us. There will be lots of entertainment, a ride for the kids, fireworks and, of course, the lighting of the Christmas Tree. We have thousands of residents turn out every year, so the more, the merrier."

The entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m. with the Hawthorn Elementary School Choir and the Scotia Cuties Cheerleaders. Musical entertainers Audrey and Alex, with special friend Kenny MacKay, perform at 5 p.m.and the event ends with the Christmas tree lighting and fireworks display over Sullivan's Pond at 6 pm. Free hot chocolate, cookies and candy
canes will be given out on site (while quantities last).

Councillor McCluskey said there will be an LED light exchange at the festival. Residents are encouraged to bring two sets of old holiday lights and exchange them for a new set of LED lights (while supplies last).

Crichton Avenue will be closed from 2:30 pm until 8:30 pm, between Ochterloney Street and Dahlia Street, to accommodate the large number of

people expected to attend the event. People are encouraged to dress warmly and to bring their festive spirit.
