Public Meeting To Discuss Future Use of Former QEH Site

(November 22, 2007) - HRM will be holding a public meeting next week to discuss the future land use options for the Queen Elizabeth High School site.

The site is located on the Halifax Common, so future options two fold: expand open space of the Halifax Common, or support future Capital District Health Authority facility expansion. HRM is inviting public feedback on what citizens think is the best public use for the site.

Facilitated by HRM staff, the public meeting will have a roundtable format to encourage discussion. Results of the public meeting will be summarized and tabled in a report to Regional Council.

Queen Elizabeth High School opened its doors in 1942. The school, which was built on approximately 5-1/2 acres of land on the corner of Robie Street and Bell Road, doubled its capacity when an addition was built in 1969. QEH celebrated its last graduating class in the spring of 2007. The new Citadel High School on the former NSCC Bell Road Campus replaced both Queen Elizabeth and St. Pat's High Schools in September 2007.

When:   Monday, November 26, 2007

Time:     6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

Where:  Saint Mary's Boat Club, 1641 Fairfield Road (off Jubilee Road) in Halifax.
