Storm May Cause Traffic Delays, Congestion

ISSUED AT 2 P.M.

(Monday, December 3/07)-- In view of the winter storm forecast for today and overnight, HRM asks employers to consider letting non-essential service employees leave work a little earlier than usual to try and reduce the anticipated traffic backup and bottlenecks due to the slippery conditions.

HRM's snow and ice crews began pre-salting hills, hospital and transit routes and other main arterial roads late this morning and additional crews are being called in as the storm ramps up.

Pedestrians and motorists are reminded to exercise extreme caution when travelling streets and roads today, and to keep in mind winter driving conditions.

HRM urges all residents who do not have to venture out today to remain indoors to reduce the number of unnecessary vehicles on the streets and roads.
