Panelists Depict Halifax Explosion
(Wednesday, December 5/07)-- Councillor Patrick Murphy says the pictorial display in honour of the Halifax Explosion depicts the significant event that shaped the future of the communities of Halifax and Dartmouth.
The panels show the thriving area of Richmond, in north end Halifax, the destruction of the area, and also its re-birth.
"I hope the panels will show this tragic event of 90 years ago and during our Christmas Season, I hope our residents will take time to view the displays at local shopping centres and take a moment to remember all of those who lost their lives, or were injured, in the horrendous explosion," he said. "I'd like to thank archivist Gary Shutlack, writer Janet Kitz, historian Harry Chapman, historian Blair Beed and also HRM staff who contributed so much information to this effort."
The Halifax Explosion pictorial display in honour of the 90th anniversary of the explosion will be on display at Scotia Square until Dec.9; Park Lane, Dec.10-17; Halifax Shopping Centre, Dec.18-30; and MicMac Mall, Dec 31-Jan.5
