Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Reminds Residents About Candle Safety During the Holiday Season

(Friday December, 7 2007) - During the Holiday Season, candle use often increases. Make sure all candles have been properly extinguished when you retire for the evening. When leaving a room with a lit candle, remember to extinguish it. A good safety rule to remember with Candle use is: When You Go Out - Blow Out!

Fires caused by candles have tripled in recent years. Of fire deaths related to candle use, 50% were under age 20, and 45% of fires caused by candles occur in bedrooms.

Today there are many battery operated, LED bulb style candles. They give a great atmosphere, but more importantly they are safe! Remember, this Holiday Season - Candle With Care! - 30 -
