(Friday, January 11, 2008) Residents are reminded of the Main Street Streetscape public meeting to be held Monday, January 14, 2008 at Stevens Road United Baptist Church in Dartmouth. An open house begins at 6:00pm with a presentation starting at 7:00pm.

The Main Street Plan has been developed with residents and businesses over the past two years and proposes to reinvigorate the district through investment and planning changes. Regional Council and Harbour East Community Council have already acted on some of the recommendations in the plan that have been identified by the public as priorities.

"This plan proposes and elegantly simple implementation that is practical, realistic, and achievable," says Councillor Andrew Younger. "Based on projects already funded by Regional Council in advance of this release, citizens will see changes beginning this year."

The Regional Plan states "The Main Street area will become dense, mixed use village core with great pedestrian spaces, goods and services, and facilities that invite residents to walk or bicycle to obtain daily needs and in so doing informally interact with their neighbours."

NOTE TO EDITORS: To allow review time, the entire plan will be available online early Monday afternoon for the media at and clicking on "Main Street Project"
