Mayor Kelly to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Twinning with Hakodate
(Monday, January 21, 2008) - Over the last 25 years the City of Hakodate, Japan and HRM have shared a number of experiences. These include educational exchanges, most prominently with Saint Mary's University and Hokkaido University of Education; business exchanges; and community exchanges where individuals and groups travel to and from Hakodate.
To help celebrate 25 years of twinning, Mayor Peter Kelly will travel to Hakodate, January 22nd.
Mayor Kelly said, " Hakodate, like Halifax, boasts a busy port, a historic star-shaped citadel and a northerly climate. These connections along with our continued exchange of cultural and educational ideas, help further the 25 year relationship between our two great cities."
During his three-day visit to Hakodate, Mayor Kelly will meet with Hakodate Mayor Nishio; the Hakodate Halifax Association; the Hakodate Chamber of Commerce and Industry; meet with 6 grade students at Hakodate Elementary School; visit Hokkaido University of Education; and tour the city.
