A Tradition for 20 Years- Recycling of Plastic Bags
(Thursday, February 21/08)--Residents of HRM are reminded that a plastic bag from any retail outlet, including a grocery store, pharmacy, clothing, department /big box store can be used to place paper (newspapers, magazines, flyers, envelopes, telephone/soft covered books and writing/printer paper) for curbside collection.
100% of the plastic bags and blue bags are recycled. Annually, 400 tonnes of plastic bags are recycled, generating $75,000 revenue for the HRM. Plastic bags recovered through the HRM recycling program are sold to foreign markets- where they are recycled into plastic flower pots, which are then sold at garden centres throughout the province.
