HRM Bike Week Website Goes Live
(Wednesday, April 16/08)-- A new website for HRM's Bike Week activities has gone live and Councillor Sheila Fougere is urging residents to visit the site to learn about the many events planned for this year.
For more information about events planned for HRM Bike Week this year, please visit its website at www.halifax.ca/bikeweek/. Citizens may also post their organized events on the website
Council Fougere, who is also Chair of the HRM Bikeways Task Force, says Bike Week this year promises to be the biggest in the 10 year history of the event.
She said when Bike Week was started in 1998, only about 40 people participated in a few events. Last year, more than 1,500 people participated in more than 30 organized events, including HRM's annual Bike Auction.
"The biking and cycling community is growing every year and people and groups are organizing all kinds of events for people to take part in, as well as to encourage others to consider cycling as a means of transportation," she said. "Its very healthy for the participants and bikes don't produce harmful greenhouse gases like automobiles do. Many Metro Transit buses are equipped with bike racks, so cyclists from outside the urban core can use a combination of the two to get to their destinations."
HRM Bike Week takes place from May 30 to June 8 this year.
