Councillor Disappointed with Deferral of Request for New High School for District 8
(Friday, April 25, 2008) Woodside - Eastern Passage Councillor, Jackie Barkhouse, said today that the community is disappointed and discouraged with the news that a high school for the Eastern Passage, Shearwater and Woodside areas, has been deferred.
"Our community was well represented at the "Imagine Our Schools" public meetings and the consultant's report had recommended that the area get a new school," said Councillor Barkhouse. "Given the cost to the Halifax Regional School Board of hiring the consultants, their recommendation should have been given more consideration in the decision."
At the present time there are almost 1600 students in feeder schools in the Eastern Passage area that will be attending Cole Harbour District High.
"Eastern Passage and Cow Bay have had considerable growth in the past several years and with future development it will continue to grow," Councillor Barkhouse said. " The increase in population would certainly support a new high school."
