George's Island Open House
(Monday, June 9, 2008) Councillor Dawn Sloane would like to invite people to attend the open house for George's Island next weekend, June 14 and 15th. The event is hosted by Parks Canada, and the Offshore/Onshore Technologies Association of Nova Scotia (OTANS). Sponsors include Waterfront Development Corporation, Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Halifax Regional Municipality and is supported by Metro Transit. This island is steeped in history and is a great experience for the whole family!
Known as Snowshoe Island to the French in 1707, George's Island has provided Halifax Harbour with a beacon for incoming ships and as a military fortress throughout the decades. Those who attend will discover the important roles this Island has played in history, while enjoying spectacular views.

Tickets are $14 each and children 6 years and under are free (children must have a ticket but there is no charge) and are available at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office or by phone at (902) 451-1221 or on line, and at participating Atlantic Superstore outlets. Tickets subject to an additional $4 per order fee if ordered on-line. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance.
The event will proceed rain or shine and the price of the ticket includes ferry service to and from Georges Island from the Halifax Ferry Terminal. You must arrive 15 minutes prior to departure. Bring sunscreen and water, sturdy footwear and dress for inclement weather.

- there is no smoking on the island
- the last ferry departs at 2:00 pm
- ferries begin leaving Georges Island at 11:15 am, and every 15 minutes past the hour, with the last ferry leaving Georges Island promptly at 3:45 pm.
Please note: Because this National Historic Site is not currently open to the public, permanent services for visitors will not be in place.
