LOCAL COUNCILLOR AND RCMP ASKING PUBLIC TO REFRAIN FROM VISITING CANDY MOUNTAIN ROAD

(Thursday, June 19, 2008) - "In conjunction with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Halifax District, I am strongly encouraging curious onlookers to refrain from visiting the areas most heavily impacted by last weekend's wildfire, and, in particular, Candy Mountain Road. The residents of Candy Mountain Road need time and space to cope with their lost and commence their recovery. RCMP will be patrolling the area and are requesting anyone that does not reside, or work within the Candy Mountain Road area, to please respect the privacy of those affected by the recent fire. I ask that you please be mindful and respectful of these residents, well as those in other impacted areas. Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources Firefighters are still working in the area trying to address "hot-spots" and they need unencumbered access at all times. Your cooperation and understanding will be greatly appreciated."
