Councillor Debbie Hum Disappointed over Air Canada's Decision
(Wednesday, July 16, 2008) - Councillor Debbie Hum, District 16, Rockingham-Wentworth, is disappointed over the recent Air Canada decision to close its flight attendant base in Halifax in November.
"I add my voice, along with Councillor Krista Snow, as an elected municipal representative for Halifax Regional Municipality, in expressing shock and anger with Air Canada's recent decision to suspend air flight base operations out of Halifax," says Councillor Hum. "Not only does suspending air flight base operations from Halifax have a huge negative economic impact on Halifax Regional Municipality, but also on Nova Scotia, and indeed, Atlantic Canada."
Councillor Hum is also upset by the fact that in addition to the economic impact, this decision impacts Air Canada's employees, many of whom are long term, dedicated individuals, and all airline passenger travel to and from Atlantic Canada.
"I ask our business leaders, our elected officials at all levels of government and our citizens to voice their concerns," urges Councillor Hum. "We cannot stand by and accept this decision by Air Canada. We must remain firm in our support for Air Canada Halifax air flight base operations and its employees. Other options must be pursued through a consultative approach with airline, business, employee and elected officials around the table."
