Black Rock Beach Party and Supervised Beach Reopening
(Friday, August 1, 2008)-- Mayor Peter Kelly and Councillor Sue Uteck, District 13- Northwest Arm - South End, will be hosting the 1st Annual Black Rock Beach Party, Saturday, August 2nd, 11am-1pm.
This is a celebration of the reopening of a traditional supervised swimming area in historic Point Pleasant Park.
As a result of the Harbour Solutions Project, water and sediment testing shows levels that are well within acceptable guidelines for both swimming and recreational contact. Divers have removed debris and physical hazards, HRM has cleaned the beach and added new sand. Buoys and nets have been installed to indicate the supervised area.
Councillor Uteck said, "The reopening of this great beach on peninsular Halifax is a milestone residents of District 13 and all of HRM can be proud of and should celebrate. I hope everyone will drop down for a great beach party, barbecue, refreshments, ice cream, live music, kids games, prizes and of course, a swim."
Councillor Uteck went on to say, "Bring your sun screen, hat, bathing suit, beach towel & chair and join in the fun, rain or shine. Let's make this historic event one to remember."
"The reopening of Black Rock Beach is an excellent example of how the Harbour Solutions Project is delivering the water quality HRM residents want and deserve," said Mayor Kelly. "We look forward to celebrating this achievement on Saturday and enjoying this wonderful beach for many years to come."
