East Dartmouth Community Centre Opening
(Tuesday, August 5, 2008) - Members of the media are advised of the official opening ceremony for the East Dartmouth Community Centre on Saturday, August 9 at 11am.
Mayor Peter Kelly and members of Regional Council, as well as federal, provincial, and community representatives will be in attendance.
The centre will be the most environmentally friendly municipal facility to open to date and includes geothermal heating and cooling, a green roof, and specialized lighting controls. It will be home to the Boys and Girls Club of East Dartmouth, a police community patrol office, and other community organizations.
The opening takes place Saturday from 11 am until 2 pm. The official opening ceremony will begin sharp at 11:15 am and last approximately 20 minutes. It will be followed by public tours of the centre and the 4th Annual Great East Dartmouth BBQ. The Great East Dartmouth BBQ is an event originally created by Councillor Younger in 2005 as a free community event. It includes food, games, and bounce castles.
During August, activities at the centre will focus on system testing, moving in tenants and furniture, and transitioning the Boys and Girls Club of Dartmouth East from their existing locations. Programming for the public will begin in September.
