Settle Lake, Cranberry Lake & Loon Lake Water Quality Advisory

(Tuesday, September 9, 2008) The public is advised that water test samples taken on August 27 at the deep stations and outlets of Settle Lake & Cranberry Lake and outlet of Loon Lake detected fecal coliform bacteria levels exceeding provincial and federal recreational guidelines at these locations. The sample collected at the deep station of Loon Lake had fecal coliform levels well below the guidelines.

These lakes are not an HRM supervised swimming location.

Under these conditions, swimming and other forms of contact recreation should be avoided until further notice.

HRM tests the water quality of a limited number of unsupervised lakes for ecological reasons on a seasonal basis only. Only lakes with supervised swimming beaches are tested on a weekly basis for recreational reasons during the swimming season. For a list of the lakes HRM tests for ecological reasons, please check the HRM website at http://www.halifax.ca/Energy-Environment/Environment/lakesandrivers.php.
