Mayor Encourages Residents to Join in Shoreline Cleanup
(Friday, September 19, 2008) - Mayor Peter Kelly is challenging residents of HRM to do their part this week for a vital part of our community—our shoreline. Cleanups organized by community groups are taking part throughout HRM starting this weekend as part of the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
"HRM is fortunate to have long stretches of coastline and beautiful beaches and lakes, and I applaud the many community groups who have risen to the challenge and arranged to clean up these shorelines in their own communities," said Mayor Kelly. "I encourage residents to take some time this week to join a cleanup—it's a great way to show how Good Neighbours make Great Neighbourhoods."
National Shoreline Cleanup week runs from September 20–28, 2008, with groups from across Canada gathering to clean up their local shorelines. Residents are welcome to take part in public clean up events being planned at various locations throughout HRM this weekend, including:
- Albro Lake
- Bedford Basin
- Belcher's Marsh
- Cleveland Beach
- Conrad Beach
- DeWolfe Park
