HRM Employees to participate in United Way Day of Caring

(Tuesday, September 30, 2008)- On Wednesday, HRM employees will be pitching in to help their north-end Halifax neighbours, St. George's YouthNet, by painting their offices and drop-in room, and helping to fix up the grounds outside.

St. George's YouthNet provides community youth mentoring programs for Halifax's inner city. The event is in support of the United Way of Halifax Region's annual Day of Caring. The Day of Caring is one of the highlights of HRM United Way's annual fundraising campaign where workplace teams spend the day painting at one of the many agencies the United Way supports.

Halifax Regional Municipality staff have a long history of involvement with the United Way. During last year's workplace campaign drive, they raised $98,000.

The Day of Caring is an excellent example of how HRM employees are being good neighbours and contributing to great neighbourhoods through sponsorship and front-line volunteer participation.

The media are invited to visit the St. George's YouthNet offices on Wednesday, October 1 from 10:30 - 11:30 am to see the volunteers in action. The offices are located at 2221 Maitland St, behind St George's Church.
