Use of Counterfeit Transit Passes

(Friday, October 31, 2008) Metro Transit wishes to advise commuters that an increase in the use of fraudulent bus passes has recently been detected throughout the system.

Transit is working closely with Halifax Regional Police on this matter. Use or sale of a fraudulent document is a criminal offence and any offenders who are caught will be prosecuted.

Passengers are urged to purchase their monthly transit passes only from official Transit Retail Outlets throughout the service area in HRM. They should ask for a receipt as proof of purchase and are also reminded not to laminate their passes or alter them in any way, as this has an effect on the security features of the pass. Metro Transit reserves the right to confiscate a pass for mis-use.

A complete list of official transit retail outlets, including 5 HRM Storefront locations, is available on the website at www.halifax.ca/metrotransit ; in Metro Transit Rider's Guides or by calling the HRM Call Centre at 490-4000, seven days a week between 7 AM-11 PM.
