Dartmouth Christmas Tree Lighting

(Monday, November 24, 2008) The Dartmouth Christmas Tree Lighting takes place Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Sullivan's Pond in Dartmouth. The festivities begins at 4:30 and last until 6:15 pm. Highlights of the event include: musical entertainment, the lighting of the Dartmouth Christmas tree, holiday fireworks & illuminations over Sullivan's Pond and a visit from Santa Claus on an HRM fire truck!

"This event is a wonderful way to get in the Christmas spirit," says Councillor Gloria McCluskey, District 5, Dartmouth Centre. "It is always a great success and enjoyed by all ages."

The musical entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m. with the Hawthorn Elementary School Choir and continues with a performance by children's entertainers Audrey and Alex at 5 p.m. The Christmas tree lighting will take place at 5:45 pm. The evening concludes with a holiday fireworks and illuminations display over Sullivan's Pond at 6 pm.

Children will enjoy the free "Santa Claus Express" train ride, the HRM fire truck display and a visit with Santa. Free hot chocolate, cookies and candy canes will be given out on site (while quantities last).

There will be an LED light exchange at the event. "You can bring two sets of old holiday lights and exchange them for a new set of LED lights (while supplies last)," says Councillor McCluskey. "This is a great opportunity to conserve energy and save money on your electric bill."

Crichton Avenue will be closed from 2:30 pm until 8:30 pm between Ochterloney Street and Dahlia Street to accommodate the large number of people expected to attend the event. People are encouraged to dress warmly and to bring their festive spirit.
