Dartmouth Reinstates Lighted Christmas Tree in Alderney Plaza
(Friday, November 28, 2008) Downtown Dartmouth has completed its Christmas decoration program for this year with the reinstatement of the lighted Christmas tree in the Alderney plaza.
"For many years, the citizens of Dartmouth looked forward to seeing a Christmas tree on the Dartmouth Waterfront," says Councillor Gloria McCluskey, District 5, Dartmouth Centre. "With the support of the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission, working with HRM, I was pleased to be a part of bringing Downtown Dartmouth alive again with the Christmas spirit."
"The Downtown Business District welcomed the opportunity to work with HRM and Councillor McCluskey to reinstate this traditional tree on our Dartmouth Waterfront," says George Clarke, Board Chair of the Dartmouth Business Commission.
The tree is also environmentally friendly through the use of LED lights similar to those used throughout the Downtown shops this Christmas. The project was also made possible through the support of the LED Light Project for Municipalities, sponsored by Conserve Nova.
Also, the TD Canada Trust Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place on Saturday, November 29th, at Sullivan's Pond, where it was located due to the large number of people who attend each year.
