Halifax Regional Firefighter Combat Challenge Team Dominates 2008

(Thursday, December 18, 2008) - Halifax Regional Firefighters Combat Challenge Team is now known as the "Mighty Halifax" and the team to beat across North America.

The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a competition based on firefighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. The Challenge is very demanding and many participants perform at the level of elite athletes. Firefighters call it the toughest two minutes in sports.

The team has competed in numerous events in the USA and Canada over the past year and has an impressive array of trophies, plaques, and tools, to show for it which was presented to Chief Mosher yesterday.

The firefighters compete on a course that includes a high rise pack carry, a hose hoist, advancing charged hose lines, forcible entry, and rescue.

HRM hosted the 2007 Nationals in Halifax on the Halifax Waterfront and won seven gold medals, setting a national record.

Chief Mosher stated that 2008 was a wonderful year for the Halifax Regional Combat Challenge Team. "Their dedication to the sport and the fire department should be applauded. The team is making a very positive name for Halifax on an international stage at a very elite level. Halifax should be proud of their accomplishments."
