Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility Mechanical Malfunction

(Wednesday, January 14, 2009)-- Earlier this morning there were multiple power failures in the peninsular Halifax area that impacted the Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility leading to a mechanical malfunction. The malfunction has necessitated the temporary shutdown of the Halifax wastewater treatment facility(WWTF).

Crews are presently working at the facility to determine the extent of the problem.

With the shutdown of the Halifax WWTF, it is recommended that residents not swim in the harbour until further notice.
