HRM Implements Spring Weight Restrictions

(Thursday, February 19, 2009)-- To minimize potential damage to streets and roads and to be consistent with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Public Works, HRM is implementing spring weight restrictions on the municipally-owned streets where these restrictions have previously applied.

The restrictions will apply from February 23, 2009 to May 4, 2009. If the weather is such that the roads stabilize earlier in the spring, then the restrictions may be lifted before May 4th.

HRM staff has arranged for enforcement of these restrictions to be carried out by Provincial Weight Enforcement personnel. This approach will provide consistent enforcement on restricted roads throughout HRM, whether maintained by HRM or TPW.

Newspaper advertisements listing the restrictions and roads affected will appear in Saturday, February 21st, edition of The Chronicle-Herald and at halifax.ca.
