Spryfield Lions Club Turns Over Management of
Rink and Rec Centre to the Community
(Monday, March 2, 2009)–The Spryfield Lions Club will be turning over the management of the Spryfield Lions' Rink and Recreation Centre to the community of Spryfield on June 30, 2009. The Lions Club has been serving the community of Spryfield for over 50 years and opened the centre in 1972. In 2006, they gave the facility to HRM, along with 10 acres of land but the Club continued to manage the facility for the community under a formal management agreement.
"Our community owes the Spryfield Lions Club a debt of gratitude, as their positive impact on our lives is immeasurable", says Councillor Steve Adams, Spryfield - Herring Cove.
After many years of dedicated service in managing the Spryfield Lions' Rink and Recreation Centre, the Spryfield Lions Club is handing over the reins to the community. This creates an opportunity for interested members of the community to become involved with a new Board of Directors for the facility and shape the direction for the future, as well as, carry on the great work of the Spryfield Lions Club. A few of the members of the existing Board have agreed to stay on for a time to lend their expertise to the new Board.
"The community of Spryfield has benefitted greatly from the service and support provided by the Spryfield Lions Club," says Councillor Adams. "The Spryfield Lions' Rink and Community Centre has been, and will continue to be, an active and vibrant hub of activity in the community thanks to the efforts of the Club and the legacy they have left us."
