Call for Nominations: Mayor's Poet Laureate

(Tuesday, March 3, 2009) - Mayor Peter Kelly and Regional Council, along with HRM's Cultural Affairs Office, are seeking nominations for the Mayor's Poet Laureate 2009-2010. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

The Mayor's Poet Laureate is a champion for poetry, language and the arts. He or she is a resident poet or spoken word artist who has achieved excellence and whose work is of relevance to the citizens of the HRM. The Poet Laureate will engage the community in activities, programs and events that demonstrate the positive impact of literature, poetry, and spoken word.

The Poet Laureate appointment is an 18-month term. Candidates must have resided in HRM for two continuous years prior to the appointment.

Any eligible poet or spoken word artist may be nominated or may nominate himself or herself.
