Dunbrack Street Tree Scape/Beautification Plan - 2009 - 2010

(Tuesday, March 10, 2009) The first phase of the project will begin this week with the removal of the rose bushes from the sidewalk sides of Dunbrack Street. The rose bushes in the centre boulevard will remain. The start location is outbound between Lincoln Cross/Meadow Lark and Knights Ridge Drive and will take place off the travel way. Pedestrian signage will be located at either end of this block..

The next section to be started will be from Clayton Park Drive crosswalk and working southbound toward Main Avenue. Work will be scheduled at night in order to minimize impact on vehicle and pedestrian traffic as it will require lane closure.

Once rose bush removal is complete, top soil and seeding will take place to reinstate a turfed boulevard. The turfed green space will minimize maintenance requirements including mowing and litter control.

Area Councillor Debbie Hum, Rockingham/Wentworth, Councillor Mary Wile, Clayton Park West and Councillor Russell Walker, Fairview/Clayton Park are pleased to see the project move forward. Based on input from community and HRM staff regarding maintenance requirements and safety issues the proposed plan is a priority. Removing the rose bushes along the sidewalks is the best option to address these issues while making the street more attractive and user friendly and will provide an opportunity for Dunbrack Street to be considered for a future Active Transportation corridor.

A Tree Scape Concept Plan has been developed for the planting of trees along the sidewalk side of the street. A display showing the concept is planned for the Keshen Goodman Library so residents can view the Dunbrack Street Tree Scape/Beautification Plan.
