HRM Crews Get a Jump on Spring Clean Up
(Friday, March 20, 2009) - HRM Public Works crews will be out in force beginning Monday, March 23rd getting a jump on the annual clean up of HRM’s streets and roads. The spring clean up effort normally gets underway the first week of April.
The effort will initially concentrate on the core areas of Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford and expand from there. In the core areas alone there is approximately 1,500KM of road and 3,000KM of curb. HRM is partnering with local Business Improvements Districts on the clean up effort.
Mayor Kelly said, “ It’s been a long hard winter for residents and our city. It’s great to see the clean up getting going so soon and I’m pleased to see our partners pitching in on the effort. I encourage individuals, neighbours, groups and businesses to join in and help give our city a good spring cleaning”.
Street sweepers will be out in force cleaning roadways where snow banks have melted. Where snow banks are still blocking the curb, crews will monitor the area and return when the area is clear. Where possible, it would be appreciated if residents could assist in the clean up effort, and speed things along, by cleaning areas in and around their property. If you have a neighbour who could use a hand, please help out. Great neighbours make great neighbourhoods and a clean city is good for everyone.
Should you notice turf or curb damage around your property, please report it to HRM’s Call Centre at 490-4000.
