(May 22, 2009) - Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency has issued a ban on all open air burning, effective immediately.
All permits for open air burning under Bylaw 103 are revoked until the ban is lifted, which means no fires of any kind. This also applies to outdoor solid fuel burning appliances s (i.e. chimineas).
These measures are due to the current hot weather and exceedingly dry ground conditions.
“Based upon information we received this afternoon from the Department of Natural Resources fire management section regarding the high potential for forest fires, we determined an immediate ban was necessary,” said Deputy Chief Director of Fire Roy Hollett.
The ban will be in place until further notice.
“Even with some rain predicted over the weekend, it will likely be insufficient to alter the current hazardous conditions,” said Hollett.
