Halifax Regional Firefighter Combat Challenge Team
Place 1st in Regionals

(Thursday, August 27, 2009) - The Halifax Regional Firefighter Combat Challenge Team has returned from the New England Classic last weekend in Haverhill, Mass. Team one placed first in the Relay and Team category. Firefighter Cyril Fraser Placed 1st in over 50, Firefighters Mike Sears and Joe Triff placed first in Open Tandem.

Firefighter Joe Triff took top male and the fourth male this year to get a time under 90 seconds on the American course this season. Firefighters Julie Read and Melanie Edwards placed 2nd and 3rd in the women's division.

Over 100 competitors competed in the challenge and four of Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency firefighters were in the top 10. The next event for Team Halifax are the Nationals in Gaspe Bay Quebec, September 3rd to 6th.

The goal of the team this year is to have a three repeat at Canadian Nationals and defend their existing titles. The team hopes to travel to compete at the World Championship in Las Vegas in November.

The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a sport designed for firefighter athletes with the goal of increasing personal fitness among fire departments in North America. The Challenge is very demanding and many participants perform at the level of elite athletes. Firefighters call it the toughest two minutes in sports.

The team is making a very positive name for Halifax on an international stage at a very elite level. Halifax should be proud of their accomplishments.
