HRM Commemorates 92nd Anniversary of Halifax Explosion

(Wednesday, December 2, 2009) - HRM invites residents to commemorate the 92nd anniversary of the Halifax Explosion at the annual ceremony this Sunday, December 6th.

The event will take place at Fort Needham Hill in north-end Halifax starting at 8:50 am, marking the moment that the collision of the SS Imo and the SS Mont Blanc rocked communities around the Halifax Harbour.

WHERE: Fort Needham Hill, Halifax

Join us for the traditional playing of the bells by Hugh Creighton, opening remarks from Mayor Peter Kelly, a recognition of survivors by Janet Kitz, and the laying of the wreaths. A reception will follow at Needham Recreation Centre where residents can enjoy a warm beverage and the music of a brass quartet.
