Mayor Kelly to Tour Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility

(Tuesday, December 15, 2009)-- Members of the media are invited to join Mayor Peter Kelly on a tour of the Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility(WWTF) to see firsthand the significant progress being made to restore the plant to full operation.

The first phase of the two-phase re-commissioning process is complete with dry weather flows now entering the plant where they are screened before being discharged via the plant's existing outfall pipe. This pipe extends approximately one-kilometre into the mid-harbour.

This work has been carried out in conjunction with the full recovery.

When:  Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Time:    1:00 p.m.

Where: Halifax Wastewater Treatment Facility, 2180 Upper Water Street, Halifax.

Please note: Everyone entering the Halifax WWTF site must have their own hard hat, safety glasses and safety boots. Those without the required personal protective equipment will not be permitted into the facility.
