Halifax Water and HRM News Release
Water Main break on Argyle Street
(Tuesday, January, 12, 2010) - Work continues to repair a ruptured water main on Argyle Street.
The break happened at approximately 5 a.m. this morning when a municipal snow clearing vehicle struck a fire hydrant. The impact to the hydrant caused the 15-inch water main below street level to rupture.
Vehicle access is restricted in the area until further notice and drivers are advised to plan alternate routes. Prince Street from Barrington Street to Grafton Street is closed to cars and other vehicles, as is Argyle Street in the vicinity of the water main break.
Water has been shut off to two buildings close to the source of the break. Crews hope to have the water service restored by late this afternoon.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
