Expanded Banner Program Helps Beautify, Promote Downtown

(Friday, April 23, 2010) – Visitors to Downtown Dartmouth will notice some new banners throughout the streets adding colour and promoting the business district and its unique advantages in terms of shopping, dining, natural attractions and appeal as a residential and business area of HRM.

The cost of the banners and their installation is sponsored by District 5 Councillor Gloria McCluskey, Halifax Regional Municipality, and the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission (DDBC).

“Making our downtown pedestrian-friendly and an enjoyable place to visit is key to our economic growth," said Councillor McCluskey.

DDBC Board Chair, George Clarke, said, “The visual signs promoting Downtown Dartmouth as a place to ‘Play’, ‘Live’, ‘Shop’, ‘Work’ highlight our district’s unique character and their installation, along with hanging baskets and improved maintenance with the capital district downtown business zone, helps promote pride in our community and bring more people downtown.”
