Public Gardens to Open its Greenhouse Doors to the Public

(Wednesday, May 5, 2010) – For all those amateur gardeners wanting to know how the professionals achieve perfect results, come to the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) Greenhouse Open House.

WHEN: Saturday, May 15, 2010 – 9am -3pm

WHERE: 5711 Sackville Street, Halifax (across the street from the Gardens)

HRM greenhouses cultivate most of the plants and flowers for the region’s parks and open spaces. On May 15, meet HRM gardeners and check out educational displays.

There will also be two free, one-hour guided walking tours of the Halifax Public Gardens that day. These will run at 10 am and 2 pm for a total of 15 people per tour.

Two new Toulouse geese have joined the garden’s resident fowl population. Children aged 5 to 12 years of age are asked to help Gardens’ Staff and The Friends of the Halifax Public Gardens name the geese. Go on-line at www.halifaxpublicgardens.ca to enter your names (one boy, one girl) by May14, 2010. Or visit the greenhouse by noon on May 15 to enter in person. The winning names will be announced at the end of the Open House.
