HRM Burning Ban Lifted

(Friday, June 25, 2010) - Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency advise residents of HRM that the burning ban on open fires has been lifted. However, future open air burning bans may occur at a moments notice.

Although the burning ban has been lifted, residents are encouraged to use caution when having fires in and around woodlands and to ensure you have the means to control or extinguish a fire. Also, be cautious of changing weather conditions, especially wind.

Residents should be aware that any person who fails to comply with any provision of By-law O-103 may be liable to a penalty on conviction of not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100) and not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000).

In addition to any fine imposed the Court or Judge may order the person convicted to pay all expenses incurred in correcting the contravention of the By-law or any damages associated with such contravention.
