Metro Transit SERVICE UPDATE FOR CANADA DAY
(Wednesday, June 30, 2010) Halifax, NS - Metro Transit will offer enhanced bus and ferry services for HRM citizens attending Canada Day celebrations. Meanwhile, a number of bus routes will also experience minor delays and re-routings to accommodate bridge closures and local parade routes. Metro Transit passengers should anticipate some delays. The service changes include:
Waterfront Shuttle
Metro Transit will operate a special Waterfront Shuttle from Cornwallis/Upper Water Street to Pier 21 to provide additional bus service along the Halifax waterfront. The shuttle will operate on a 15-minute frequency from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., servicing special bus stops located at: Cornwallis/Upper Water Street; Hollis/Sackville Street; Pier 21; and Historic Properties.
Regular fares will apply; $2.25 cash, or tickets, transfers and passes will also be accepted.
Ferry Service
The Woodside Ferry will not be in operation as per the regular holiday schedule. However, extra ferry service will be provided on the Alderney Ferry as follows:
Thursday, July 1 (Canada Day):
7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (30-minutes)
12:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. (15-minutes)
10:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. (30-minutes)
Service Delays & Re-routing
MacKay Bridge Closure: June 30 - July 2
The MacKay Bridge will be closed from 9 pm, Wednesday, June 30, through Canada Day, to 5 am Friday, July 2. All MetroLink and conventional bus routes that usually travel the MacKay Bridge will be re-routed to the Macdonald Bridge for the duration of the closure, causing minimal service delays for affected routes.
Canada Day Parades
Temporary service delays and re-routings will be required on Canada Day to accommodate local parades, including the Royal Nova Scotia International Tatoo parade on Spring Garden Road and the Patriot Days parade along Sackville Drive in Sackville. Therefore, passengers should anticipate minor service delays.
The Tattoo parade on Spring Garden Road will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 am, with buses detouring via South Park Street, to Morris Street, to Barrington Street, and vice versa.
The Patriot Days parade on Sackville Drive (from Sobey's to Rock Church), will be held from 9:00 - 10:00 am, with buses detouring via the Old Sackville Highway, to Sackville Terminal, and vice versa.
