Free Public Lecture
Botanical Gardens: Fertile Soil for Horticultural Therapy

(Friday, July 2, 2010) - Flowers and gardening may actually be good for you. That’s the message from Lesley Fleming, the President of the Florida Chapter of the American Horticultural Therapy Association. She’ll be in town promoting the idea that public garden programs, through the use of plants and gardening activities, can actually improve the spiritual, social, physical and cognitive well-being of all individuals, while having more specific therapeutic impacts on specific groups: from at-risk youth to the mentally and physically disabled, to war veterans.

This free public lecture, sponsored by The Friends of Public Gardens and the Halifax Regional Municipality, will take place on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 7-8 pm at the Alderney Gate Public Library (Helen Creighton Room).
