Regional Council Approves Wind Turbine Next Step

(Wednesday, August 18, 2010) - A staff presentation around creating policy for wind turbine use in HRM took place at yesterday’s Committee of the Whole meeting. Last evening, Council gave approval for the next step in the decision-making process.

The wind turbine presentation, brought forward by HRM’s Regional and Community Planning department, lays out proposed policy direction with respect to where and under what rules or guidelines wind turbines could be installed around HRM - in both urban and rural areas.

The report will now go to Council’s Energy and Underground Services Committee and the Regional Planning Advisory Committee, a proposed bylaw will be drafted with a first reading to Council expected in November. If Council passes first reading, a public hearing will follow, before any Council decisions are made.
