Ernst Mill Bridge - Lake Major/North Preston Road

(Thursday, September 2, 2010) - The Ernst Mill Bridge is now open on the Lake Major/North Preston Road. The detour is no longer in effect. Work on the bridge will continue until mid-October so during this time there may be stop and go traffic. Motorists may experience short delays.

HRM apologizes in advance for any inconvenience these delays may cause.

The Ernst Mill Bridge is located on the Lake Major/North Preston Road (just north of Cranehill Road) and crosses the Salmon River. This structure had reached the end of its service life and required replacement. The project is being funded, in part, by the Federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, requiring the work to be completed by March 31, 2011. The pre-cast concrete bridge replacement is vastly superior to the former structure and once totally completed (mid-October) will include two 3.7 metre driving lanes, a 2.1 metre sidewalk and a 3.0 metre multi-use trail crossing.
