HRM Community Recreation Services takes part in first-ever Sports Day in Canada
(Wednesday, September 15, 2010) In honour of Sports Day in Canada, a national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high-performance levels, HRM Community Recreation Services will be hosting free sport and recreation events throughout the municipality.
Swimming pools at the Needham Community Centre, Captain William Spry Community Centre and Northcliffe Community Centre will open their doors to residents of HRM for free during selected swim times on Saturday, September 18th. HRM’s Eastern Shore fitness centre locations will be hosting free tours and day passes. Additionally, HRM will also be hosting a free guided trail tour at the St. Margaret’s Bay Rails to Trails. Sports Day in Canada, on September 18, 2010, is a national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high-performance levels, in communities across Canada. Sports Day in Canada caps off a week of over a thousand local sporting events and activities, open houses and try-it days showcasing sport at all levels, and includes a special television broadcast on CBC. Sports Day in Canada is presented by CBC Sports, ParticipACTION and True Sport and is guided by a committee of national sporting organizations and their networks of coaches, athletes and enthusiasts across the country. It's an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the power of sport to build community, fortify our national spirit and facilitate healthy, active living.
