Synthetic Ice Rink Demo for Central Dartmouth
(Wednesday, October 20, 2010) - From October 22-28, Central Dartmouth will be home to a synthetic ice rink for use by the public and other groups. The idea for the week-long rink access is courtesy of District 9 Councillor, Jim Smith. The rink itself is provided by Icepro Synthetic Ice. Public feedback on the rink, says Councillor Smith, will be a deciding factor in whether or not he moves ahead with a synthetic rink purchase for the district sometime in 2011-12.
“This week-long demo will be a great opportunity for the community to get out, get some fresh air and have some fun with friends and family. It’ll also be a great way for us to get a sense of whether or not a synthetic ice surface will be popular with residents, and a viable option in terms of installing a permanent ice rink in the district.”
A kick-off event, complete with a Cops vs. Kids hockey game, music and food, will take place on Friday, October 22 (school PD day) from 1-4 pm. The rink will be located on Nantucket Road, next to Dartmouth High. For more information, call 490-4730 or email adamst@halifax.ca . For a schedule of public skates, visit www.halifax.ca .
